Holy Half Marathon 2011

My jogging mate and colleague, Cat, and I have been training for a few months and entered this year's Holy Half Marathon. It's a 13.1 mi (21 km) race that is run entirely on the Notre Dame campus. Over 1000 people entered the race this year.

Fellow chemists Forbes and Adam joined us for the challenge as well.

Despite a fairly congested first few miles, I was pretty revved up about the event.

At about 60% of the way, I made a few more over-takes... See the next photo too for the outcome of this attempt.

Actually, are those in the right order? If not then... I guess that I was saving a little for a sprint on the home-straight.

Here's the obligatory shot in front of the dome. It's a beautiful campus and I'm so grateful to Ian; he came and took heaps of photos and even offered me chocolate at mile nine!

And here I am with metres remaining and blowing hard. I emptied the tank here and probably looked totally crazy doing it. (But loved that bit of the race the most!) Thanks Ian and especially: thanks Cat! Now let's plan our approach to the next big race in Indy.

The times aren't out yet; I think that I ran something like 2 hours. I'm hoping that I'll be on the lower side of that mark. When I find out, I'll post it in the comments.
